more first steps

I’ve been at the machine embroidery again, practicing controlling the machine speed and moving the fabric accordingly. It’s quite a challenge not to move the fabric at the same fast speed as the machine and straight lines suddenly go off on a tangent if I glance away. My Bernina is behaving well and doesn’t seem to mind which threads I use, except for some shiny rayon which I’ve had for years and which shredded around the needle no matter how I adjusted the tension.
The black and white image is an attempt to copy an illustration from a book on historical costume. The little house is one I made up as I went along – the fabric is a double layer of a ‘multi-purpose cleaning cloth’ (pack of 14 for £1!). The clumps on the hills are supposed to be trees…
